During my time in India, I had the opportunity to visit the city of Varanasi. Varanasi isn’t the largest city in India, but every week it is estimated that over a million people visit it.   People come from all over the country and all over the world to see the city, but more importantly to visit the Ganges River.

In India they believe the Ganges River is a god. People will gather every night to worship the river in what is called the Aarti. During the day you will find thousands of people bathing in the river in hopes that by doing this they can wash away their sin.

The saddest event that will happen here in the city is the constant fires of the burning ghat. In Hinduism they believe that when they die, if they are able to take their bodies to this secret burning ghat and cremate it in the special ceremony it will be their best chance to break reincarnation and go on to Nirvana.

This city is in desperate need of the gospel. Only the blood of Christ washed away sin, but they have never heard. Out of the 1.2 million people that live here 99.7% of them are non-Christian. We need more laborers to go to India to reach cities like this! Would you please pray that God would send more laborers to his harvest?
